Shove Bob Armstrong’s Dip In Your Mouth

Image

Humans are stupid. It’s cool, we get it. Despite this accepted reality, man is capable of remarkable innovation. The wheel, rubber, interchangeable parts, nuclear power, the internet, and so on. But what does our generation have to offer? That, my friends, is a question to be answered at Mattito’s Mexican Restaurant & Cocina.

From Mattito’s kitchen to our watering mouths comes the famous Bob Armstrong Dip. You may actually consider the calorie-crammed queso dish to be infamous if you’re not careful. This ideal combination of beef, cheese, guacamole, and sour cream has built quite the local reputation. Despite not even being listed in the restaurant’s menu, the Bob Armstrong Dip is Mattito’s most popular dish. Why? As soon as that first bite kicks you in the mouth with a foot full of flavor, you’ll know.

This would be a mediocre review if we failed to mention the Bob Armstrong Queso Eating Contest. As cliché as it may be, we really do like everything bigger here in Texas. Even if we aren’t so big ourselves. Back in 2010 a petite woman named Teresa Pullen claimed the queso crown when she chowed down more than 2 pounds of Bob Armstrong Dip. It has not been confirmed whether or not a terrible stomach ache accompanied her crowning.

While Mattito’s Bob Armstrong Dip obviously isn’t as impactful as the wheel or internet, its presence has definitely been felt here in Dallas; especially by those who guzzle it down by the pound. Do yourself a solid and get into Mattito’s ASAP.

Mexican food moderation is important. Please dine responsibly.

Many thanks to DFW Burger Meetup for another excellent bad excuse to go out and purvey the fine and varied hamburgers that our fine metroplex has to offer.  Thanks to Mr. Eric Swayne (@eswayne) and his unwavering passion for thy burger of ham.

This month, Eric brought us to Stoneleigh P for a Battle of Burgers: The Shrop Burger vs. The Rancho Deluxe.  Which won?  Well, you should have showed up…in the meantime, your mouth can water until next month’s DFW Burger Meetup, and/or stop by Stoneleigh P this Sunday to Buy One Burger, Get One Burger 50% Off and you can decide for yourself.

Congratulations to Bailey’s Prime!

TangoTab’s own, Bailey’s Prime Plus, was named by Zagat on of the 5 Best Restaurants Around Northpark Mall.  From their magnificent dining room, great bar and drinks, their private dining rooms for events, great sides, and, of course, the main event, the prime steaks.  Personally, I’m partial to the bone-in ribeye, but everything they prepare is excellent.

Why Take Action?

Growing up in a middle class family, I can say now that I was oblivious to the struggles of others.  As I read the latest Gallup Poll, it reminds me of how fortunate I have been.  To think that over 1 in 5 people in Oklahoma or Texas, for example, have struggled to afford food in 2012 is incomprehensible.

At TangoTab, we love and celebrate dining out.  It’s a great excuse to be with friends and family and try wonderful new food and drink, or the comfort of the old and familiar.  We want people to know they have can have an impact on an important, and often overlooked cause, just by dining out.

September is Hunger Action Month.  If you’re reading this, you’re likely already a fan of TangoTab and we thank you.  Take action: find a friend, or several, and tell them about the Fight against Hunger and TangoTab and ask them to sign-up and try the service.  If you can feed a child, your network can feed a village.

Let’s Tango with Chef Mario Flores from City Café

Chef Mario Flores

I was first introduced to City Café through some great friends years ago.  Easy access off the toll way at Lover’s Lane in University Park, City Café has a comfortable bistro dining room with excellent New American-Californian cuisine.  With its corresponding City Café To-Go space next-door, it caters to all, literally.  Personally, it’s tough to say no to the Thai Fried Calamari and Lobster Ravioli.

So, Let’s Tango…

You’re stranded on a desert island, and only have one food to live on.  What would it be?

Mario: One food, one type of food?  I’d probably say nuts.  That’s my snack.

Scotty is ready to beam you to the best restaurant city on Earth.  Where are you going?

Mario: I would go to City Café on Lovers Lane.

You suddenly have an unexpected break in your day.  What are you doing?

Mario: Going fishing.

You’re in the hotel bar, you turn and the most amazing person is next to you and wants to chat.  Who is it?

Mario: I would probably talk to Mark Cuban.  He is a very successful guy who has always been making a lot of money.  He is smart.  He is a brilliant guy.

People don’t know good until they have tried this at your restaurant?  What is it?

Mario: Our Cathy’s Healthiest Chopped Vegetable Salad.  We named it just a chopped salad, but a client loved it so much we named it after her.   So its Cathy’s Chopped Salad. Its something they must try at the restaurant every time they come in.  It’s all vegetables with an amazing lemon oregano dressing on it.

City Cafe Dallas

So, go and try Chef Mario’s work first hand, enjoy an awesome meal and experience in City Café’s dining room.  If you like it and shout about it enough, he might just name it after you.  TangoTab recommends that CEO Mom grab a great meal for the family from City Café To Go, or couples can grab some friends and share some free sides with their meal.  Life’s better with great sides.
